Als antwoord op dit verlangen bood Axis, wereldwijd marktleider in netwerkvideo, hen de oplossing. Zij kwamen samen met Axis-partner LumiGuide met een slim camerasysteem dat, in tegenstelling tot de traditionele systemen, de lege plaatsen in fietsenrekken registreert. Dit betekent dat dit apparaatje als het ware ‘ziet’ waar er nog voldoende plek is voor een fiets. Andersom wordt door deze camera ook geregistreerd waar er onvoldoende plaats is om een fiets te parkeren, bijvoorbeeld naast een fiets met grote fietstassen aan beide kanten. Dit zorgt er voor dat het systeem ten opzichte van andere oplossingen een minimale foutmarge kent.
Deze technologie werd eerder al toegepast in Nijmegen, waar men af wilde van de grote hoeveelheid ‘weesfietsen’ in de stad
